The following pdf document was released by School District 48 on Monday June 23rd and includes important updates regarding year end procedures due to the labour dispute between the BCPSEA and the BCTF.
Specific to students at Signal Hill Elementary:
“Elementary (Kindergarten to Grade 7) Final Report Cards
The recent ESO was limited to the provision of final marks for Grades 10 to 12 students. However, many of our teachers had already completed their full or condensed report cards prior to the June 16th, 2014 walk out. As such, some of our Kindergarten to grade 7 students will receive a version of a year-end report card. All other students will receive a letter from the school principal indicating their promotion statement and reiterating that their year-end progress information will be provided in some format following the labour
dispute. Your school principal will contact you to outline your school’s report distribution process. We are hoping to have any reports ready for distribution between Monday, June 30, 2014 and Friday, July 4, 2014.
We realize how important reporting is to parents. If you do not receive a Report Card, your principal will inform you as soon as we are able to have teachers confirm each child’s year end information.”
The following was received today from Carl Walker, President of Local 48:
DPAC Reps and PAC Chairs,
As you are probably aware, teachers have decided to move to Phase Two of our member approved, LRB sanctioned job action.
This is not a decision we take lightly but, after 16 months at the bargaining table and a long way off from a fair deal, teachers will start rotating strikes on Monday, May 26th. Teachers in School District 48 will be on the picket
lines on Monday, May 26th. They will return to their classrooms on Tuesday, May 27th. Any extension of rotating job action will depend on events at the bargaining table
Teachers are still fully committed to a negotiated settlement and are calling on government to offer teachers a fair deal and show some good faith at the bargaining table, instead of threatening teachers with wage rollbacks, lockouts and other attempts to divide members.
Teachers empathize with parents who have to change their family schedules because of this recent change in our job action. This is why we have taken the unusual step of providing between six and ten days notice in advance.
We are appealing to parents to join with us and encourage the government to move off their unreasonable demands and negotiate a fair deal for teachers and better support for students.
You may wish to contact any of the following government representatives to express your thoughts on this situation.
Jordan Sturdy, MLA, West Vancouver-Sea to Sky
Peter Fassbender, Minister of Education
Christy Clark, Premier

Parents were recently asked to provide feedback to Sea to Sky School District 48 on the recent 2-week spring break. A summary of the survey results has been released. 2012 FEEDBACK RESULTS – SEA TO SKY SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 48-.
As a result of this report, we have been advised that there will be a 2-week spring break for the 2012 – 2013 school year. Were the opinions of Pemberton families accurately represented in this report? Let us know at the PAC Meeting Tonight – 7pm in the Library.
We received the attached letter yesterday via the Sea to Sky District PAC. Please note that we are receiving lots of information through this channel from all sides of the dispute. By sharing it, we are in no way suggesting that either the BCTF or the Ministry of Education is right or wrong. We will continue to share information as we receive it so that you can understand both sides of the issues at hand.
