2014 Father Daughter Dance

father-daughter-dance

Dust off your dancing shoes – the Pemberton Father Daughter Dance is coming soon!

The Signal Hill Elementary School Parent Advisory Council is excited to host Pemberton’s 16th annual Father Daughter Dance on Sunday, June 22, 2014 at Big Sky Golf and Country Club.

This event is very popular, attracting dads and their daughters from the Pemberton Valley. The Father Daughter Dance is a fundraiser for the elementary school (last year’s event raised nearly $2,500). It’s a fun evening including dinner and dancing for dads and their daughters, as well as a hula hoop contest, jelly bean count, raffle (raffle tickets will be available for $1 each) and silent auction. This year, funds raised through the raffle, 50/50 and silent auction will be matched by the Pemberton Scotia Bank! Each dad and daughter also receives a photo with Sea to Sky Photography. We are excited to say that each girl attending the dance will also once again receive a ticket for a free photo in the Cheesebox PhotoBooth (additional photo booth photos will be available to purchase at a reduced rate of $2 each).

Ticket prices remain the same as last year — $10 for daughters and $30 for dads

As space is limited and this is a fundraiser for the Signal Hill school PAC, girls attending the dance MUST be current students (Kindergarten to Grade 7) of Signal Hill Elementary School.

Tickets will be available to purchase online starting Monday, June 2. Tickets MUST be purchased in advance. There will be absolutely NO tickets sold at the door.  Capacity is limited and this event will sell out.

Online Purchase:

Tickets will be available to purchase on the PAC hotlunch website: https://signalhillpac.hotlunches.net/admin/

Use the same login information you use to order hot lunches. If you do not have an account on this website, you will need to register on the site. If you do not know your log-in information, simply click “forgot password”.

Once you have purchased tickets online you will receive an email confirmation and be placed on a master list to be used at the event.

Cash:
A small allotment of tickets will be available for purchase by cheque or cash. If you need to purchase your ticket by cheque or cash, please contact Christine Andrew at the school. You will not receive an actual ticket but will be placed on the master list to be used at the event.

Volunteers: this event won’t happen without the help of many volunteers needed on the day of the event (set up from 3-5 p.m. and during the event). If you can help, please contact one of the organizers listed below.

If you have any questions please direct them to a member of PAC Executive or one of the following organizers:

Message to Parents from Teachers

The following was received today from Carl Walker, President of Local 48:

DPAC Reps and PAC Chairs,

As you are probably aware, teachers have decided to move to Phase Two of our member approved, LRB sanctioned job action.

This is not a decision we take lightly but, after 16 months at the bargaining table and a long way off from a fair deal, teachers will start rotating strikes on Monday, May 26th. Teachers in School District 48 will be on the picket
lines on Monday, May 26th. They will return to their classrooms on Tuesday, May 27th. Any extension of rotating job action will depend on events at the bargaining table

Teachers are still fully committed to a negotiated settlement and are calling on government to offer teachers a fair deal and show some good faith at the bargaining table, instead of threatening teachers with wage rollbacks, lockouts and other attempts to divide members.

Teachers empathize with parents who have to change their family schedules because of this recent change in our job action. This is why we have taken the unusual step of providing between six and ten days notice in advance.

We are appealing to parents to join with us and encourage the government to move off their unreasonable demands and negotiate a fair deal for teachers and better support for students.

You may wish to contact any of the following government representatives to express your thoughts on this situation.

Intermediate Playground – UPDATE

Congratulations to all the students, staff, teachers and parent volunteers of Signal Hill Elementary! As a result of everyone’s collective fundraising efforts, we have raised over $80,000 and are now only a few weeks away from installation of a NEW INTERMEDIATE PLAYGROUND.

What will the new playground look like?

145-AB-73954 (3D)small

What about the swings and current play structure?

The original playground plan included the purchase of new swings. At the request of parents, we revisited this and determined that the existing swings were salvageable as long as we didn’t move them. So, 4 swings are staying as is the existing wooden play structure. We’ve had to sacrifice 2 swings in order to accommodate all the new equipment into the plan / space.

Where is the new equipment going to be installed?

The new playground equipment will be located adjacent to the swings and the Outdoor Classroom that was installed last spring.

When will the installation take place?

Site preparation will begin this coming Friday May 2nd with equipment starting to arrive the week of May 6th. The Lunar Blast will be installed on Saturday May 10th with the balance of the equipment being assembled and installed on Sunday May 11th.   The playground will be ready to use the week of May 12th.

Stay tuned for details about the Official Opening Ceremony later that week.

How can I help?

We need volunteers to help on Saturday May 10th and Sunday May 11th with assembly and installation of the new equipment. Please plan to come out and help for a few hours! Sign up below.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

HUGE thanks to Graham Murphy and the team at Murphy Construction for their project management expertise.
